Resource Efficiency in Organisations

Sector: Garages

Garages are a sector of concern due to the potential for hazardous waste to enter the mixed waste stream. It has been found that if garages manage their wastes properly they should be cost neutral when it comes to all waste management. This is due to the value of metal and batteries which many garages do not manage correctly.

The Scale-up factor used for the garage sector is employee numbers. The factor is 0.297 tonnes per employee annually
In a garage employing 12 people there could be 3.5 (0.297 x 12) tonnes of waste generated each year
